USS Thresher Memorial Service Arlington National Cemetery
Below are pictures taken by Jerry Chesser and his wife Carol on September 26th, 2019. Jerry and Carol attended The memorial service for the USS Thresher. They learned about the service through their daughter who remains friends with the daughter of Rear Admiral Orzalli (Ret.) who was responsible for the monument and the memorial service. We have stayed in contact over the years through our daughters. They told us about the ceremony and we signed up to attend.
The ceremony was held in the Arlington National Cemetery Amphitheater just behind the Tomb of the Unknown. The program pays tribute to the USS Thresher's Legacy: SUBSAFE Program.
The monument location is on Roosevelt Drive walkway in Arlington National Cemetery. 1.5M people will pass by the monument each year.
Speakers included: Admiral Richardson (SS) CNO 2015-2019; Thomas Wiley, a brother of a crew member who died; U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen from New Hampshire
